Tampa Bay Open Weightlifting Training Session at Tern Weightlifting Recap

Posted on Posted in Olympic Weightlifting

First of all, we’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to our open Tampa Bay Area community training session at Tern Weightlifting last Saturday, July 17th! It was a great time had by all and it was wonderful to see so many lifters come together for a fun day of training.

Since quite a few lifters are competing in either the Tampa Bay Area Classic 4 or the American Open Series 2 in Miami, we put together a “mock meet” as part of this gathering for athletes to practice lifting in front of referees. For many, it was the first time in a “competition environment” which is great practice to see what the experience is like before getting on a real stage! Everyone did great and we had roughly 25 of the 50+ people who came out lift in this “meet”!

We have photos from the event available on our Tern Weightlifting Facebook page:

WHAT ARE THESE OPEN TRAINING SESSIONS ALL ABOUT?

A few years ago, we created a Facebook group (Florida Olympic Lifters) to try to help connect our weightlifting friends in Florida and eventually extend to friends of friends, coaches, etc. The intent of the group was to have a place to share our competition schedules, travel plans, discussions, and really anything else weightlifting related. Our community training sessions soon followed and are open to anyone and everyone. These events are an opportunity for the Weightlifting community in the surrounding areas to come together and is a great way to meet other Weightlifters from the area, other coaches, and anyone who is generally interested in Weightlifting.

We plan to host an open training session once per quarter, so stay tuned for information about our next event on Saturday, November 4th!
