June Feature: Coach Stacy!

Posted on Posted in Olympic Weightlifting

During PRIDE month, we would like to recognize members of our club who are part of the LGBTQ+ Community and love Weightlifting!

How & when did you find Weightlifting?
I found weightlifting in 2014 through CrossFit and became a USAW Level 1 coach that year.

What do you love most about the sport?
The wide range of people that you meet within this community. You have people of all races, sexual orientation, backgrounds, ages, body types, abilities etc that come together.

What does PRIDE mean to you?
PRIDE to me means being exactly who you are.  Celebrating differences, spreading love and bringing people together.

Any comments on your experience in Weightlifting as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
The visibility that this sport gives the LGBTQ+ community is what makes it so special. From your local clubs, to local meets, to national stages, to Olympic athletes this sport promotes and supports diversity. That’s what I’ve enjoyed most. Looking at USAW athletes and clubs and seeing such inclusivity. Visibility makes such an impact on those looking to enter the sport or just finding a place they belong.

One piece of advice for anyone wanting to try Weightlifting?
Join a community! Whether it be in person or remote, join a community that makes you feel safe, supported and allows you to be authentically yourself!
