During PRIDE month, we would like to recognize members of our club who are part of the LGBTQ+ Community and love Weightlifting!

How & when did you find Weightlifting?
I found weightlifting about 2 years ago. I had been doing CrossFit for a few years before that and realized the only part I really looked forward to was weightlifting so I decided to really give it a try.
What do you love most about the sport?
What I love most about the sport is how it is constantly pushing me to get a little better every day and I try to take that thought process into the rest of my life outside of weightlifting.
What does PRIDE mean to you?
To me PRIDE is a time to really celebrate who I am and who I love while also being extremely thankful for those that came before me that could not celebrate like this because they were doing the hard work of getting us to where we are today.
Any comments on your experience in Weightlifting as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
I will say all of my favorite experiences have come at weightlifting meets. I will never forget my first meet just being so surprised that the other people I were competing against were talking to me and cheering me on when I was lifting. Being up in front of that many people by yourself is scary for everyone, not just members of the LGBTQ community but I have never felt so supported by complete strangers before and that is what makes this community great.
One piece of advice for anyone wanting to try Weightlifting?
Do it and give it a try! It can be overwhelming at first but my advice is always to just focus on one “little thing” you can improve every day.
